Year-Round

During the school year, after school programs are offered. Girls have opportunities to attend resiliency groups and pregnancy prevention programs. Boys are offered a council style group. Both boys and girls are offered a Service Club that was started by a group of the young ladies participating in our after-school programs last school year. Service Club serves Iron Gate, a local soup kitchen every week. Children are given an opportunity to have a safe place to be after school make productive use of their time developing friendships, being around other children with a parent in prison, and learning about themselves and their futures. A meal is provided by volunteers every night, no one is sent home hungry. New Hope's after school programs provide a stable environment for children who may have more unstable homes than most. There are six weekend retreats throughout the year: a Boys' retreat, a Girls' Retreat, two Girls' Horse Retreats, and two Boys' Horse Retreats. The weekend retreats focus on fun, fellowship and effective education. The Horse Retreats help our young people learn responsibility, perseverance, communication skills and how to follow directions while they are given stable/barn tasks, and learn to ride, feed and groom the horses. New Hope children enjoy holiday parties for Halloween and Christmas. Seventy-five Thanksgiving Baskets were distributed to New Hope families at the end of November and 252 children received Christmas presents this past December for their caregivers to take home to be opened on Christmas morning.
